The History of the Milton Skating Club
The
Club was established in 1962 as the Milton Figure Skating Club
and was incorporated in Feb. 1988. In 1992 the name was
changed to the Milton Skating Club. The club has been sanctioned
by Skate Canada since its inception in 1962.
We
started in the “Brown Street Arena” which is now the location of
the Milton Post Office (across the street from the Town Hall).
In the early seventies we moved to the new “Milton Memorial
Arena” and when John Tonelli Arena opened in 1978 we operated
programs out of that arena also. In 1992 we selected John
Tonelli as our exclusive home arena and stayed there until the
“Milton Sports Centre” opened in October of 2003. We now
operate 6 days a week from August to June each season.
The
aim or mission of the club is to provide high quality skating
programs to individuals and groups of all ages, which will allow
for the development of skating skills for hockey, figure skating
or recreational skating, as well as good sportsmanship,
competitive spirit and life skills.
